We were able to go to the farm, for about a week, recently. This place is Heaven for my boys. They love it so much. Derek missed a week of school. His teacher said he is ahead and he would be fine. We also worked out a plan for him to do a project to share with his class. He put together a poster of pictures of farm life to share with this class. He loved the project and loved me taking pictures for the project. Here are the high-lights from the trip.
My boys love the 4-wheeler. They ask for rides all day long, rain, snow, or shine. On this trip we even proved that as you can see by the clouds and snow gear it was cold. Our second day on the farm brought cold, rain, and snow. Thankfully that was the only bad day.
Below is a picture of my mom and Derek making tags. We put tags in the cattle ears so if they get out and wonder away people will know who to call. Thankfully that doesn't happen often. Derek saw Grandma doing this and had to help her and I. He did one tag and then spent a while writing the name Yeager over and over and then had be write other farm things like tractor down so he could copy them. A great project for him as he got to practice his writing skills
No trip would be complete without a visit to my Grandparents. Up until a year ago they lived on the farm and my grandfather worked side by side with my dad. I always figured he would die working the farm. I never pictured him in a nursing home. A year ago I was home and had to help my parents move them into the nursing home. It was a very hard time. My grandpa has Parkinson's and really struggles to more. He can no longer hug us. It was so hard to see this. But, he has improved and adjusted so much from a year ago. I really enjoyed visiting with them, and remembering,
I grew up working along side my Grandpa and Daddy everyday. I ran the farm with them and loved every minute. I also went fishing, camping and hiking with them all the time. I have so many memories of my time with them. So many great memories. I miss him not being able to do those things, but I will always be thankful for the time we had. My last fishing trip with just the 2 of them was right after I graduated. My dad suprised me and loaded me and Grandpa up and we headed to Montana to fish. We didn't catch many if any fish that trip, but we saw beautiful country, went to places we had been and built new memories that I will alway cherish.
I also spent time with my Grandmother. I would never want to leave her out. I remember many a day spent in her warm kitchen watching her cook. She and my mother taught me how to cook, something I will always love to do. I made many cookies with her. She taught me sister how to sow, and me how to cook. My grandparents are such a blessing in my life. I was able to grow up with all 4 grandparents around, and still have 3 of them here with me. I love that my boys get to meet them. I learned a lot from my other grandparents, but since this visit included them, this post will be for them. I am so grateful for all my family.
Derek and Nathan both learned an important job this trip. We had 1037 head of cattle come in and they all needed to be processed. That mainly means vaccinated to keep them healthy. They both asked to give shots and they succeeded. Nathan gave about 30 to 40 shots, and Derek gave around 140 shots. Pretty impressive for a 4 and 5 year old. Derek really loved it and felt proud to be able to help Grandpa Yeager. It made him smile all day.
Daniel, in the below photo, spent several hours in this position. My dad would have to open the shut to let cattle in and out and in between Daniel would hold his had. He loves his Grandpa so much and follows Grandpa everywhere. I love the special connection my boys have to there Grandparents on both sides.
