We celebrated Derek's 8th birthday a few days early so he could have his promised "big party." I don't do big parties each year, but at 4, 8, and 12 they can have a friends party. We decided on a "Weird Science Party" I think it turned out great and more importantly Derek loved it. Below he is making a valcono to get ready for the party. Derek loves crafts, arts, and using his hands.

One activity was candy towers. Toothpicks and candy, lots of giggles, and fun. Katie won with the tallest tower. A couple of them decided it was better to eat then build.
Being a weird science party we did our hair up. We coudn't get all the kids to do, but my boys loved it including my "big boy."
Did you know that when you boil red cabbage and save the water you can test the acidity or lace of acid in items. We tried this out and the kids had fun watching it turn colors for base or acid. Then they really had fun when I poured vinegar into the cups that had soda and baking powder in them. They loved it fizzing up and going over the cup.
We didn't get pictures, but we also made "goo" and tried to get an egg into a bottle. I realized my mistake at the end of the experiment. To get an egg into a bottle that is to small you must use a glass bottle not plastic. Otherwise the plastic bottle collapses with the added heat instead of sucking the egg in. :-)
