5 Minutes w/out Mom

So, I think I could write a daily blog about the things Derek and Nathan get into. Today, I was going to the restroom. In those few short minutes things got destroyed. First, I noticed what I thought was water all over the floor by the shower. When I started to mop it up it got all sudsy. It was a whole bottle of baby shampoo. When they did that I have no idea. I left the bathroom only to find that Nathan had pulled all my papers off the computer desk and was eating them. I look at Derek to see if he helped and realized he has a red tube in his mouth. It only takes me seconds to realize he had opened my purse and was helping him self to my nice lip gloss from Bath and Body Works that my Mother-in-Law gave me this Christmas. It happened to be my favorite. He ate the whole tube!!! That ought to be good for his tummy. I can't even use the bathroom without consequences. On a good note, Derek can now climb the big slides and toys at the park without any help. He is very good at it. It is lots of fun to take him to the park. He loves it and I love playing with him and Nathan. I will gave to get some pictures of them and post them next week.

Batteries

Ok. So, there is no picture to go with this one, but I had to share what my adventurous child did this last weekend. Jordan and I spent the morning cleaning on Saturday and relaxing. We put the boys down for there nap and we went to work on our talks for Sunday. Jordan noticed a small reading light on the floor that Derek had earlier. He also noticed that the back was off and 3 button batteries were missing. We combed the house and couldn't find them. Logical solution was that Derek at them. Now what to do. We called the poison control center. They said go in for an x-ray and make sure they aren't stuck in his throat. If they are in his stomach they should pass in a couple do days. Pretty easy. We went to the ER. They took the x-ray. All the batteries were in the stomach, and two of them were heading into the intestines. Good, we thought. The Dr. had never dealt with this and so he called the children's hospital in Des Monies. They said it was bad and that we needed to come to Des Moines immediately and he would need surgery because the stomach acids would eat the batteries and the chemicals in the batteries would hurt Derek. That isn't good. So, we headed for Des Moines, 2 hours away. We got there and were soon told that Derek is fine and the batteries will just pass. Wait a minute, what happened to the surgery. Who knows. Some where there was some Dr. miscommunication. So, we drove 2 hours one way for no reason. Oh, well. I ended up not having to cook all day and the house was still clean because we were gone all day. The batteries came through Derek with no trouble on Sunday. No more toys for Derek that he can take apart. The kid eats everything. I tell you what, these two adorable boys keep us jumping, but they are worth it.

Visiting the Farm

I was able to spend the last week at my parents house. Derek loved the farm. He got to ride the 4 wheeler, ride a horse, ride a cow, play with ducks, cows, puppies, chickens, roosters, geese, baby kittens, and more. The kids loved it and I enjoyed it too. I only wish Jordan could have come with us.

Derek learned how to turn the 4-wheeler on and off while we were at Grandpa's feedlot. He loved it and loved riding it. Good thing he can't reach the gear shift yet.
These pictures are of Derek helping us doctor the sick cattle. He wasn't afraid of anything. He is quite the little man. He was right beside Grandpa every chance he got. He even feel asleep checking the cattle several different times.
Below is Derek keeping an eye on the cattle. Can you believe he can climb this fence. He is a great climber and climbs everything without any help.
This is Anna with her Duck and Nathan. Nathan and Derek enjoyed watching the duck all week. Anna is raising this duck and it thinks she is the mommy. It is really cute.

This is a video of Derek starting the 4-wheeler. Riding the 4-wheeler with Grandpa was probably Derek's favorite thing to do.

Zoo

Jordan had a business trip in Des Moines. They always set this trip up so families can attend. This year they were able to get our small group into the zoo in the evening. It was great, because there were no crowds and because the animals were all up and active in the cool evening weather. Derek really enjoyed it as he is our animal lover. Below is Nathan feeding a Giraffe.
