So I thought I should give an update on our lives since I haven't blogged in forever, and it has been a bit crazy around here. So, first news is Jordan got a job!!! We are so excited. He works for our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is a planning analyst. He loves his job, and comes home everyday happy. It is so nice to see a smile on his face each evening.
Our next adventure happened a couple of weeks ago when everyone came to town to be with us for Levi's special day at the Temple where he would be sealed to us for all eternity. But, he held a surprise for our family. On Sunday he was really cranky, Monday became worse. On Tuesday, I called the Dr.'s clinic and took him to the Dr. to see if he had an ear ache. He was so fussy, and had a fever. I wanted to make sure he was OK, and would be all better by Friday when the family came. Dr. checked him out, and said he was fine, and probably just had a virus. I agreed and headed home. He was up most of night, and Wednesday cried for 2 hours straight. Since my Dr. was out of the office on Tuesday I called and talked to her and she said come it. (If you need a good Dr. I recommend Allison Erye. We love her.)
He was still showing no new symptoms. He was very irritable, had diarrhea, cried all the time, and wasn't sleeping. His throat was red, and so were his eyes. She tested for strep and that was negative. So, it was back to waiting. She said to bring him in on Friday if he still had the fever. So, another night of little sleep, and Thursday was a rough day. That evening around 9:00 Jordan was holding the crying, inconsolable baby, when he noticed his hands and feet were swollen. We called the after hours line, our Dr. called us back. After a few minutes on the phone she said to go to the ER, at Primary Children's. She thought he might have Kawasaki's Disease
What??? So, off we went. That began our 4 day stay in the hospital. All the family was in town, and Levi was in the hospital. It wasn't the wonderful weekend we had planned, but it was such a blessing to have the family in town. Levi did have Kawasaki's disease. The short of it goes like this: Vascular disease, high fever, all the other symptoms listed above, and a very upset child. He had to have a special treatment of Gamma Globulin, or IVIG. They spin the blood of 10,000 people and take off just a small part, and then give it to him in an IV over 10 hours. Amazing. The Dr. said that it cost the price of a new car.
Bottom line, Levi got better. We didn't get to take him to the Temple for the sealing, but we did get to that two weeks later. He is feeling much better. It takes 6-8 weeks to fully recover, and he has to have 3 sedated echo cardiograms to check his heart as it can be damaged. So he gets aspirin twice a day for 8 weeks, and hopefully he will turn out just fine, which is most likely as they said there is only a 5% chance of heart damage.
Long post, but I wanted to update our family and friends. Thanks for all your thoughts, and prayers over the last little while with Levi, and the last 18 months, with the move, job search, adoption, and just for being there for us.
